Informational meetings coming up for parents of incoming kindergartners
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO –- Parents of incoming Capistrano Unified School District kindergarten students are invited to upcoming informational meetings about Language Immersion Programs in both Mandarin and Spanish within the district.
Marian Bergeson Elementary School in Laguna Niguel is home to Capistrano Unified School District’s Mandarin Language Immersion Program. In its fifth year, this exciting program offers students the opportunity to become fluent and literate in both Mandarin and English.
Students who attend the Mandarin Language Immersion Program learn to think, read, write and speak naturally in both English and Mandarin. They receive instruction in both Mandarin and English to develop linguistic and academic competence in both languages. In this intensive elementary program, students begin their study of Mandarin in kindergarten.
This is a very popular program. Space is limited and parents must attend an orientation for inclusion on the interest list for classes starting next fall. Children must be 5 years old by September 1, 2017, in order to apply for the 2017-18 school year.
Marian Bergeson Elementary School will hold parent information meetings and tours on the Mandarin Immersion Program December 2, 8, 14, January 11, and 18 at 8:00 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room.

Additionally, Capistrano Unified offers Spanish Language Immersion at San Juan Elementary School in San Juan Capistrano; Las Palmas Elementary School in San Clemente; and Viejo Elementary School in Mission Viejo.

San Juan Elementary in San Juan Capistrano will hold parent information meetings and tours on December 8, 15, 20, January 11, 19 (in Spanish), and 25 in the Multipurpose Room at 8:30 am.
Las Palmas Elementary in San Clemente will hold bilingual parent information meetings and tours on Tuesdays, December 6, 13, 20, and January 10 in the Multipurpose Room at 8:30 a.m.
Viejo Elementary School will hold bilingual parent information meetings and tours on Wednesdays, December 7, 14, 21, and January 11, and 18 in Multipurpose Room at 8:30 a.m.
